About the ONGC Industrial Training Programme

ONGC invites applications from students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) who have passed the Intermediate examination. The training is offered under Regulation 51 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 for CA students and Regulation 46 of the Cost and Works Accountants Regulations, 1959 for CMA students, as amended from time to time. Trainees will work in Finance and Accounts functions at ONGC work centres. ONGC is a Maharatna public sector undertaking and India’s flagship energy major, engaged in exploration and production of oil and gas in India and abroad, so a training period here carries real weight on a student’s record.

Eligibility Criteria for ONGC Industrial Training

  • The student must have passed the Intermediate examination of ICAI or ICMAI. For CA students, both groups of CA Intermediate must be passed. For CMA students, both groups of CMA Intermediate must be passed.
  • The student must have scored a minimum of 60 percent overall in the 12th standard.
  • The student should have been born on or after 1 January 2000.

The notification does not set any minimum percentage for the Intermediate examination itself, and it does not bar students who took more than one attempt. However, preference in selection is given to first-attempt qualifiers, and marksheets of all attempts, including failed attempts, have to be uploaded with the application.

Duration of Training

  • CA trainees: 9 to 12 months
  • CMA trainees: 15 to 18 months

As per the notification, this period of training will be considered as 9 months, 12 months, 15 months or 18 months of industrial training under the applicable regulations of ICAI or ICMAI, as the case may be. Leave during the training will be admissible as per the rules of ICAI and ICMAI.

ONGC Industrial Training Stipend

The stipend depends on the city category of the work centre and on the year of training.

Category Work centres 1st year (per month) 2nd year (per month)
Category X Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata Rs 25,000 Rs 27,000
Category Y Vadodara Rs 22,000 Rs 25,000

Selected trainees have to make their own arrangements for boarding, lodging and travel. ONGC does not provide accommodation for industrial trainees, so students applying for a work centre outside their home city should factor in living costs before choosing their preferences.

Selection Process

Selection will be based on the eligibility criteria given in the notification. Preference will be given to the wards of ONGC employees and to candidates who qualified the Intermediate examination in the first attempt. The notification does not mention any written test or interview. ONGC reserves the right of final selection, and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
