DISA 4.0 Is Coming: DISA 3.0 Candidates Get Last 4 Attempts from Nov 2026

DISA 4.0 transition explained: DISA 4.0 is coming and DISA 3.0 candidates get their last 4 attempts from November 2026, ISA Assessment Test on 28 November 2026, how to prepare free with DISA Saarthi

The DISA 4.0 transition is now the only fact that matters for DISA 3.0 candidates: you have your last 4 attempts left, starting November 2026, and after that DISA 4.0 takes over. The first of those four attempts is the ISA Assessment Test on 28 November 2026. ICAI has already discontinued new enrolment into ISA 3.0, so no fresh candidate can enter the old course now. If you are mid-journey in DISA 3.0, the clock is no longer open-ended. This post explains what is changing, who is affected, what stays the same for the November attempt, and how to prepare while the attempts remain.

The DISA 4.0 Transition: What Is Changing and Why

ICAI is upgrading the Diploma in Information Systems Audit from DISA 3.0 to DISA 4.0. In its official press communication, ICAI has said the upgraded course puts far more weight on hands-on, practical work, and that it is aligned with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act) and current cybersecurity best practices. The ICAI President has also spoken about a DISA+ upgrade alongside DISA 4.0, aimed at members who want to go further after qualifying.

The direction is easy to understand. Systems audit work has moved well beyond checklists. Engagements now involve cloud environments, data protection law, ransomware risk, and technology controls that change every year. A course designed around that reality needs more lab work and less theory-only study. Based on what has been reported so far, the expected focus areas of DISA 4.0 include cybersecurity audit, data protection and DPDP compliance, cloud audit, technology risk management, digital trust, hands-on labs, and audit simulations. Treat these as reported focus areas, not as a published syllabus. The detailed DISA 4.0 notification is awaited from DAAB, and the module list, fees, and batch schedule will be known only when that notification is out.

For current DISA 3.0 candidates, the practical meaning is simple. The old course is in its closing window. ICAI has stopped new enrolment into ISA 3.0, existing enrollees must complete within their validity period, and the remaining Assessment Test cycle under the 3.0 syllabus is limited to the last 4 attempts starting November 2026.

The Last 4 Attempts: What the DISA 4.0 Transition Means for You

The 28 November 2026 ISA Assessment Test is the first of the last 4 attempts for DISA 3.0 candidates. Once those four attempts are done, DISA 3.0 closes and candidates move to DISA 4.0 under the transition. Four attempts sounds comfortable until you map it against your own position. Look at where you stand:

  • Eligibility Test passed, Assessment Test pending: you are the most affected group. Every attempt you skip is gone for good. The November 2026 attempt should be treated as a serious attempt, not a trial run.
  • Classes complete, Eligibility Test or Assessment Test pending: your sequence is fixed. Clear the Eligibility Test at the next opportunity (the November 2026 Eligibility Test runs on 14 November 2026) and keep the Assessment Test attempts for when you are fully prepared, because the count is now finite.
  • Mid-preparation: you no longer have the option of a slow, indefinite preparation cycle. Your study plan has to be built backwards from four fixed attempts.

The advice that follows from this is blunt: treat every attempt as precious. Do not sit an attempt you are not ready for just to see the paper, and do not skip the 28 November attempt lightly if you are ready. A skipped attempt and a wasted attempt both cost the same thing now, one of only four chances.

What Stays the Same for the 28 November 2026 Attempt

Nothing changes about the immediate exam in front of you. As per ICAI’s announcement dated 23 September 2026, the ISA Assessment Test on Saturday, 28 November 2026 runs on the ISA 3.0 syllabus, in computer-based test (CBT) mode, with a fee of Rs 2,000. Applications were open from 8 to 21 October 2026 at isaat.icai.org. If you have applied, your preparation target is unchanged: the same 3.0 syllabus, the same exam pattern, the same standard. Full details of the test are in our ISA Assessment Test 2026 post. Candidates who still need the Eligibility Test first should check the dates and process in our ISA Eligibility Test post.

How to Prepare During the DISA 4.0 Transition

With a finite number of attempts, preparation has to be structured. A serious plan for the remaining attempts looks like this:

  • Finish the full syllabus once before anything else. No selective study. With only four attempts left, leaving a module untouched is a risk you cannot spread across future attempts.
  • Take mock tests under real exam timing. The Assessment Test is a timed CBT paper. Speed and question selection are skills, and they only improve under timed conditions.
  • Revise weak modules with data, not feelings. Use your mock scores module by module, list the two or three weakest areas, and give them the next study block before you revise what you already know.
  • Keep one attempt in reserve mentally. Plan to peak for the November 2026 attempt, but structure your notes and mocks so a second attempt, if needed, starts from revision rather than from zero.

Our DISA exam preparation guide covers the syllabus, study approach, and common mistakes in detail, and it is worth reading alongside this plan.

DISA 4.0 has been announced by ICAI as the upgrade to DISA 3.0, with a hands-on focus aligned to the DPDP Act and cybersecurity. The detailed DISA 4.0 notification is awaited from DAAB, so the module list, fees, and batch dates are not officially published yet.

No. As per the DAAB notification for the November 2026 Eligibility Test, new enrolment into ISA 3.0 is discontinued for new members. Existing enrollees must complete the course within their validity period.
