Microsoft AB-730 Exam Guide [2026]: No-Coding Copilot Certification for Finance Professionals

Microsoft AB-730 AI Business Professional exam guide infographic with no-coding Copilot skills, four exam domains, October 2026 refresh badge and a 14-day study plan

The Microsoft AB-730 exam certifies the Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional credential, a non-technical certification for people who use Microsoft 365 Copilot in daily business work. It involves no coding and no app building. Microsoft refreshed the English exam skills outline on 20 October 2026, adding a full domain on agents and Copilot Cowork, so older study material is out of date. This guide covers the changes, the skills and a 14-day preparation plan. Weighing it against the architect-level credential? What is the Microsoft AB-730 exam?

AB-730 measures how well a business professional uses Microsoft 365 Copilot, pre-built agents and Copilot Cowork to improve daily work and business decisions. It tests generative AI fundamentals, prompt and chat management, business content work and agent use. No coding is required.

AB-730 sits on the business side of the Microsoft AI catalog. The architect credential, AB-100, covers designing agentic solutions for an organization. AB-730 covers using the tools in front of you: drafting in Word, analyzing in Excel, clearing email in Outlook, running better meetings in Teams, and handing multi-step tasks to agents. Finance professionals are a natural audience, because so much finance work is document, spreadsheet and meeting work.

Microsoft AB-730 exam changes in the October 2026 refresh

The official change log shows a substantial rewrite, and the audience profile is marked as a major change. Three shifts matter most.

Agents now carry their own domain. The new functional group, “Drive business outcomes by using agents,” covers selecting and applying prebuilt Copilot agents and performing business tasks with Copilot Cowork: delegating work, reviewing plan and progress, choosing prebuilt or custom skills. The old objective on creating and managing agents was removed. You are tested on using agents, not building them.

Work IQ runs through the outline. The audience profile states that candidates take advantage of AI and Work IQ, Microsoft’s work-context layer, to improve daily work and decisions. Objectives return to Work IQ repeatedly: context, connectors and insights across your work data.

The older domains were rebalanced and renamed. “Manage prompts and conversations by using AI” became “Manage prompts and chats by using Microsoft 365 Copilot,” with major changes to the prompt and chat objectives. The content domain now covers collaboration explicitly: Facilitator agent, Intelligent recap, Copilot Pages. The older domains lost weight as the agents domain took its share.

Microsoft AB-730 exam skills breakdown: what to practice

The outline has four domains. Each row pairs a domain with the practice that builds it. This exam rewards daily Copilot users over readers.

Microsoft AB-730 exam skills in a finance job: Copilot workflows that count

Map each domain onto work you already do. These four workflows cover all four domains.

Excel analysis (content and fundamentals domains). Ask Copilot in Excel to explain the three largest movements in a profit and loss extract, flag values far outside the recent pattern, and draft a variance commentary. Then verify every figure against the source data: citation checks and human review are exam objectives.

Word reporting (content domain). Turn rough month-end notes into a management report draft, then have Copilot summarize a long supporting document into a one-page brief. Practice moving content between apps: the outline tests content work across Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Outlook and Teams work (prompts domain, collaboration objectives). Triage a busy inbox, summarize a long thread before you reply, and draft payment reminders in a consistent tone. Generate a brief before meetings and use Intelligent recap after them. Save prompts that work: prompt management scores marks.

Agents for recurring work (agents domain). Pick one repetitive monthly task, such as chasing missing invoices, and decide whether a prebuilt agent or Copilot Cowork handles it better. Delegate it, review the plan, and check results step by step.

Your 14-day Microsoft AB-730 exam study and practice plan

Fourteen days at 30 to 45 minutes a day is a realistic runway if you already use Microsoft 365. The agents domain gets three days because older material does not cover it. A printable version is linked at the end. The practice plan assumes you have access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, usually through an employer licence. If you do not have a licence yet, study the objectives and use the exam sandbox until you have access.

Who should take AB-730, and when a different exam fits better

Take AB-730 if you use Microsoft 365 Copilot in a business role and want proof of practical skill: prompts, content, meetings and agents, no code. It suits finance analysts, accountants, operations staff and team leads working in Microsoft 365 daily.

Look at AB-731, Microsoft Certified: AI Transformation Leader, if your job is deciding rather than doing. Its official outline, measured as of July 22, 2026, covers the business value of generative AI, Microsoft AI apps and services including Foundry Tools, and adoption strategy. It targets decision-makers who lead AI adoption and also requires no code. Choose AB-731 for strategy, governance and rollout; AB-730 for daily output.

Consider a broad AI fundamentals exam, such as Microsoft AI-900 (Azure AI Fundamentals), if you want concepts that reach beyond Microsoft 365 into Azure AI services. For finance professionals who live in Microsoft 365, AB-730 is more directly useful: every objective maps to a tool on your desktop.

Booking the Microsoft AB-730 exam

Book from the official certification page on Microsoft Learn. Microsoft recommends a personal Microsoft account over a work or school account: records tied to an employer account are lost if you leave. Try the free exam sandbox first. The study guide links to the accommodations request process. Confirm the fee at booking: US list price $99, set by region.

Microsoft delivers the exam through Pearson VUE. You can sit it at a test centre or online from your own computer with a proctored check-in. If you do not pass, the standard Microsoft retake policy applies: the first retake is allowed after 24 hours, and later attempts carry longer waits (14 days between attempts under the current policy). Check the current policy on the exam page before you rebook.
